Etihad Names Captain Khalid Al Ali to Lead Global Aeropolitical Strategy

Etihad Airways has appointed Captain Khalid Humaid Al Ali as Senior Vice President of Aeropolitical, International and Government Affairs, placing him in charge of the airline’s efforts to expand its route network and strengthen ties with aviation authorities worldwide. The appointment reflects Etihad’s push to secure new air rights and deepen government relationships as it continues to grow its international footprint from Abu Dhabi.

Al Ali brings more than 40 years of aviation experience to the role, including time as Senior Director of the Air Transport Department at the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority, where he helped shape national aviation policy and negotiate international air traffic agreements. His background combines degrees in Aviation Science and Law with expertise in arbitration and international relations — a mix the airline says will be valuable in navigating complex aeropolitical negotiations.

The move comes as Gulf carriers navigate a still-recovering aviation landscape, with airlines across the region working to secure market access and strengthen regulatory relationships amid ongoing global travel demand shifts. Etihad’s leadership sees the appointment as reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s position as a hub for international connectivity.

Elsewhere in the UAE corporate world, the Emirates Group has also recently announced a wave of senior appointments, including several promotions of UAE nationals into leadership roles — part of a broader push across major Emirati companies to build leadership benches from internal, homegrown talent.
